Visiting An Organic Farm

Daniel invited us to visit his organic pepper (like salt and pepper) farm. He is one of the first organic farmers in the country. These are dried pepper corns.

We got to feed a baby calf.

Then we got to feed the pigs, too.

Next, we learned how to make organic compost. It involved lots of poop! I'm proud to say everyone helped and even dug in the bins to help spread it on the plants. Don't worry, we washed our hands.

Anyone want to taste the unripe pepper corns?

Why yes thank you, we think we will. But not Kristin.

In fact, there was a throwdown between Jake and Taylor. Taylor took the title, eating 10 in a row without breaking a sweat.

We learned a great deal about how multinational corporations, especially pineapple and banana companies, are shaping the Costa Rican landscape for the worse, and how better choices can and are being made.

  1. I am a big organic proponent and I am so happy Daniel shared his story with you. So valuable to see where your food comes from before it is processed and packaged. Whole, natural foods are healthier! How were the peppercorns, Chase?! Señora Buse and Mrs. Berman-Dry, could you please remind the kids who brought cameras to take lots of photos?! ¡Graçias!
