Costa Rica Day 2 by Will

From the beautiful scenery to the different animals, Costa Rica has been great.  Even though it is only our second day here, I feel that I have learned a lot today.  We woke up with the animals, as there were two roosters at hotel Brilla Sol.  After breakfast we departed the hotel and headed for Chilamate.  On the bus, we saw many sights and even a few natives transporting coffee beans with bulls!  We saw a waterfall and the Sarapiqui river, which is the river we will be rafting on.  There were a few cattle on the road that tried to chase us when we passed them!We arrived at Chilamate Lodge.  We met Megan, who was the owner of the lodge and on the school board.  We got our rooms and went to Chilamate school.  There, we had our first day of work, where we painted some of the walls.  In addition to the work, we played some tag games.  These involved everyone with a bandana, and everybody is trying to take everybody else's.  This was very fun, as we got to play with the second graders.  One thing that is different from the US is that the students only go for a half a day.  This is because the school does not have enough teachers to teach grades 1-6.  After the school, we went back to the lodge and had dinner.  After dinner, we talked about AMPing up and expectation setting. AMPing up includes analyzing a situation, managing it, and preparing for it.  I feel that I have learned a lot of spanish so far, as I speak it to Randall and the other people, like the bus driver.  As a group, I feel that we are getting along well and  having a great time

  1. Thank you Will! Your blog is very detailed and I feel like I am there (I WISH I WAS!). Are you happy to have left the noisy roosters behind? WOW... Half day of school?! Put that request in the suggestion box at STJES ... I wonder what Mr. Stevens would say.... (-:
    Continue having fun! XO

  2. This is great, Will! Love that you all had an action-packed day and had many interesting things to see, learn and experience firsthand. And I'm especially impressed that you are using your Spanish as this experience will greatly enhance your skills with the language. After reading Mrs. Whalen's posts, it sounds like she's catching the next Southwest flight! I might have to join her. Or I guess I'll just have to keep reading everyone's posts and imagine....... ;)

  5. Sounds exciting Will! We are so glad that you are enjoying the experience and taking it all in! Mariam in second grade asks, "Did any of the students speak English?"
