This morning we woke up at five because we still haven't gotten used to this time zone. Then we ate breakfast because the food here is so amazing I just can't even. American food is so bad compared to Costa Rican food! But honestly, I am really craving pizza right now. Then we went ziplining through the canopy, which was awesome. There were nine ziplines for us to go on, and it took two hours to complete it all. I got stuck on some of them, just like almost everyone else. Then we came back to our eco retreat and had lunch, which was pasta. Then we had free time. During this time we basically just swing on the hammocks and explore. After our free time, we went to a Ethno-botanist and he made us eat weird leaves that fizz in your mouth. I wish America was this cool. He also gave us a ton of leaves, fruits, and plants to eat. Some of them were really good, and some of them we spit out. Angela, Suhasini, and I used seeds to mark the red liquid on our palms, and using a plant that had powdery stuff, we got tattoos and put them all over our faces. It was so fun! Then we came back to our lodge and took cold showers. We just hung out until dinner time which is so good. I love talking to the kids here because it is fun to speak Spanish. So far I haven't gotten a mosquito bite! Let's just hope it stays that way.

  1. Good job, Kristin! Way to go avoiding the mosquitoes. I hope Colin has fared as well. The zip lining looked like so much fun. We miss you guys, but are so happy for you. It sounds like you will remember this trip for a long time. Please let Colin know that updated the post about the special pot. :-)

  2. KRISTIN! I'm missing you my sweet sunshine! Love hearing about the wonderful adventures! I hope you're keeping a journal (-: Great news that the mosquito's are not pestering you. I guess ten cans of Permethrin did the trick!
Hay, think ways you can stay in touch with the students there ... old-fashion snail mail? Or email? Or Skype? Look forward to PIZZA for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the first couple days you're home and then we'll try Costa Rica recipes. LOVE YOU TO THE MOON & BACK.

  4. It looks like you guys had an excellent time. Albert in second grade asks, "Did you see any animals while zip lining through the rainforest?"

    1. Albert, it's really hard to see ANYTHING when you are ziplining because you're really high up--hundreds of feet--and you are going so fast that you can only focus on the next "way point."

  8. Awesome post, Kristin, and glad that you have avoided the skeeter bites! Ziplining looked like so much fun and I bet quite a bit different than Adventure Park! How great it is for you to be able to use your Spanish. This is such a wonderful experience! :) Please give Peyton a hug for me!!!
